On January 31, 2017, the Independent Adoption Center (IAC) announced that it was closing its doors after 34 years. This news was shocking and devastating to hopeful adoptive families that were waiting to adopt through IAC, birth mothers who placed through the agency, and many others in the adoption world. While we at AdoptHelp are deeply saddened by this news, we are glad to report that AdoptHelp’s program is still going strong after more than 13 years in service and we are here to help however possible.
For pregnant women and adoptive parents who are currently matched and were working with IAC, we can pick up where IAC left off and can continue preparing your hospital and adoption plans as expected. Our case workers make themselves available 24/7 and will personalize your adoption plan based on what is important to you. Our birth mother advocates have worked with birth mothers in all fifty states and have a network of resources, from social workers to counselors, all over the country. For immediate assistance, please call 800-637-7999.
For those clients of the Independent Adoption Center (IAC) who have been waiting to adopt, we can only begin to imagine how difficult this must be. While AdoptHelp is not affiliated with IAC in any way, we hope that we can help. AdoptHelp is a private adoption law firm, focused exclusively on voluntary domestic adoption, and has one of the most extensive birth mother outreach campaigns in the nation.
Since its inception, AdoptHelp has welcomed all family types and individuals who hope to grow their family through adoption and has never placed any restrictions on incoming clients. Our hopeful adoptive parents typically see an average wait time between six to twelve months, from activating in our program to being selected by a birth mother. It is our goal to balance any incoming adoptive parents with successful placements each year and we maintain very thorough program statistics, which we are happy to share with our current and potential clients. Should you like to learn more about our program, we are happy to send you a packet of information and set up a complimentary consultation with our lead attorney Mark Goldman. Please call 800-637-7999 for more information.
For any adopting parents that paid money to the Independent Adoption Center (IAC) in the year 2015, please be aware that you may be able to claim the Adoption Tax Credit this year, while filing your 2016 taxes. The adoption tax credit is not based on a successful adoption, so it can be claimed the year after signing up with an agency or adoption professional. For more information about this, please visit our 2017 Adoption Tax Credit Blog and consult with a tax professional.
Our thoughts are with all of those who have been effected by this news. We hope prospective adoptive families aren’t discouraged by these events, as domestic adoption has been, and continues to be, an important and beautiful way to build a family.
